What Our Bench Really Checks Before a Watch Sells

A plain look at what our watchmakers do before a pre-owned watch earns its listing — and why that trail matters when you resell.

Q: How do you actually check that a watch is real? A: Every piece crosses the bench before it's listed. Our watchmakers open the caseback and read the movement directly — the finishing, the engravings, the way the rotor sits and winds. We match serial and reference numbers against known production details, weigh the case in hand, and study the dial printing under magnification, which is where most fakes fall apart. Nothing gets photographed for sale until it clears that step.

Q: The listing says "unworn." Does that mean it's new? A: It describes condition, not origin. An unworn piece shows no wear on the lugs, bracelet, or clasp — but it's still pre-owned stock that reached us on the secondary market, and we say so plainly. If a watch carries a few light desk marks or a bracelet that's been sized, you'll find that in the notes and the close-up photos, not tucked into fine print.

Q: What happens if it needs work later? A: Many of the watches we sell are serviced by our own watchmakers before they go up, and we tell you the date that work was done. Every sale is backed by our store warranty, so if something goes wrong inside the covered period, you come straight to us. We're not the brand and we don't speak for it — the coverage is ours, and we stand behind it.

Q: I may resell in a few years. Does buying pre-owned hurt that? A: This is exactly where the paperwork earns its keep. You get our authentication notes, any service records, and whatever box or documents arrived with the watch. The next buyer — or the next dealer — wants that trail more than anything. A watch with a documented history moves far easier than one sold with a shrug. We can't tell you what any piece will be worth later; no honest seller can. What we can do is make sure the person after you inherits a clean, traceable story.
