The Sea-Dweller occupies Rolex's professional dive hierarchy between the Submariner and the Deepsea. Developed in partnership with saturation-diving company COMEX in the late 1960s, its signature feature is a helium escape valve at nine o'clock, enabling pressure equalization during decompression. Steel references omit the cyclops magnifier over the date—a deliberate, tool-first detail collectors respect. The addition of the Rolesor variant has since broadened the line's appeal beyond pure utility.

Two size epochs define buying decisions: the 40mm Sea-Dweller 4000 era, anchored by ref. 16600 (produced 1988–2008), remains the benchmark collector piece for its balanced proportions and strong secondary-market depth; the current 43mm generation—ref. 126600 in steel, ref. 126603 in Rolesor steel-and-yellow-gold—suits buyers seeking modern bracelet comfort and a contemporary movement. Water resistance is rated 1,220m (4,000ft). Value drivers include an unpolished case and bracelet, a functioning Glidelock clasp, and complete box-and-papers. The 126603's two-tone configuration commands a meaningful premium; dial originality and bracelet stretch each affect pricing materially on pre-owned examples.
The ref. 1665 (1967–1988) established the COMEX connection; double-red dial variants are among the most collectible vintage pieces. The 16600 (1988–2008) refined the formula at 40mm. The 126600 and Rolesor 126603 (2017–present) mark a 43mm 50th-anniversary relaunch.

Pre-owned steel 16600 and 126600 examples anchor the lower end; the Rolesor 126603 commands a significant premium reflecting its gold content and newer production. Current live range: $9,150 – $21,750. Prices shown are wire; card adds 3.5%.
