Buying — or selling — a Rolex Submariner

The Submariner spans 40mm (references through 2020, including 16610 and 16613) and 41mm (current 126610 series). Steel date models are the entry point; steel-and-yellow-gold two-tones like the 16803 and 16613 add warmth with a meaningful premium, while white-gold references command the highest prices. Ceramic-bezel references (116610 onward) resist fading far better than aluminum-insert predecessors. Box, papers, and bracelet condition are critical — stretch on older Oyster bracelets is common and replacement adds cost. Dial originality matters most on vintage references, where tropical or ghost dials can dramatically elevate value beyond standard market pricing.

Generations & references

Early references — 5512, 5513 — defined the first three decades. The 16610 era spanned 1989–2010. The 116610 brought Cerachrom ceramic bezels in 2010; the 126610 moved to 41mm with Calibre 3235 in 2020.

What your Rolex Submariner is worth

Most people land on a page like this for one of two reasons: they want to buy a Rolex Submariner, or they already own one and want to know the number. The prices above answer the first question — they are what the piece sells for once a specialist has cleared it.

For the second, send the reference and a few photographs. A specialist reads the case, dial, bracelet and papers and comes back inside one business day with a firm figure, taken as cash or as credit against something else. We cover fully insured shipping in both directions, so it costs nothing to find out and nothing to walk away.
